MOREMI UK Tour -September 2008
Moremi is an epic drama piece in the Yoruba tradition featuring theatre, dynamic dances, masquerade, powerful music, and elaborate costumes.
Moremi, a beautiful woman of valour who staked her life for the benefit of her people, sacrificed her child to please her god, to seek peace in a world of uncertainty. Learn how through great risk to herself and the inhabitants of Ile-lfe she conquered the mysterious spirits of the Ugbo tribe.
Moremi is divided into six chapters containing traditional style dialogue, songs and music. The first part of the play looks at the inhabitants and their community within the marketplace, and their struggle to maintain their land. The second part, Moremi has become the Ugbo ruler trades favourite wife. Unaware of the dangerous game she is playing, secrets are revealed, and a menace will be curtailed forever.

ACCOMPANIED BY AN EDUCATIONAL OUTREACH PROGRAMME
The tour can also be accompanied by an educational outreach program for schools and community groups. During the week commencing the cast of the show will visit local schools to run workshops, in close collaboration with the arts teacher/co-coordinator. All our performers have a broad knowledge of the traditional and contemporary artistic skills and history of their respective cultures and their impact on the cultural heritage within Britain. Pupils will have the opportunity to work along side artists to broaden their experience and develop their knowledge of African crafts traditions and culture, with the chance to take part in and benefit from the following activities:
Visual Art: Batik, tie-dying, clay work and ritual mask-making
Drama: To be of relevance to the pupils-i.e. can integrate an anti-bullying theme (tailored to the needs of each school). Participants can develop ideas themselves by using our structured African Legends, Myths and Meanings.
Dance: Related to show and theme chosen by the school. Participants will also get a chance to wear African attire.
Music: Featuring talking drums, traditional hand made shakers and bells.
The workshop will culminate in a visit by all workshop participants to a matinee performance of Moremi at the School Hall/Theatre.
